Local chicken rice stall specializing in the Hainanese chicken rice served with the rare chicken rice ball. Originally located at Jalan Besar, Good Year serves both steamed chicken (with a dash of light soya sauce and sesame oil) and roasted chicken (with a lime on the side) starting from $4, as well as chicken gizzards, char siew (BBQ pork), roast pork, braised eggs and vegetables like mixed cabbage, bean sprouts or bok choy. Another highlight at Good Year is their signature chicken feet & groundnut soup that comes with every order of chicken. Condiments used include a zesty homemade garlic chilli sauce and a ginger dip.
The chicken rice balls are cooked in rich chicken stock, with ginger and pandan leaves before being molded in a round, tennis-sized ball, sealing in heat, moisture and flavour in the process. Traditionally eaten with hands, this is a rare dish in Singapore. You can settle for the regular chicken rice set if the rice balls isn’t your thing.
