Casual family-style diner specializing in Penang cuisine based on their family recipes. Highlights at Gu Cheng include the Signature Carrot Cake ($6.90), made up of cubes of deep-fried radish cake which results in a crispy exterior with soft insides, before being stir-fried in Gu Cheng’s special sauce with prawns, eggs, Chinese sausage and preserved radish, as well as the spicy, tangy Penang Laksa ($6.90) and the classic Penang Hokkien Mee ($6.90); while the rest of the menu consists of a selection of mains, sides and vegetables such as Penang Lor Bak ($3.50) and Penang Cuttlefish Kang Kong ($6). The former is a fried Nonya meat roll marinated wrapped in bean curd skin, and the latter see the cuttlefish and kang kong vegetables tossed in a sweet, tangy sauce and topped with crunchy peanut bits. Drinks-wise, Gu Cheng offers a $2 range of local beverages, like Rose Tea and Pink Guava juice.
