Matchaya started with doing pop ups and flea markets, followed by online retailing before moving into its current location. One of the earliest product is the Matcha Milk featuring premium and high quality milk tea. The strong and distinct matcha flavour gives the milk tea a bitter sweet note that is very refreshing … A must try at Matchaya is their Houjicha Soft Serve. I have never known soft serve can taste so good with the nutty flavour of the houjicha, complemented by the smooth and creamy texture. This is probably the best soft serve I have ever eaten. I tried the Matcha Milk which I felt was a bit too mild for my liking. Apparently, I can opt to add another dose of matcha which I wish i did. I would have love the matcha flavor to be more evident over the milky taste … I was confident that ice cream can make everything alright. We were in luck as we got to Matchaya and found out that they’re having the (black sesame and matcha) dual-flavored soft served ice cream that week! I’m happy to report that it tastes just a delicious as it looks! I love how each scoop doesn’t give you that grainy texture that you normally can get from drinking or eating anything matcha. Instead, it was just so smooth and creamy… Read full review. +
…the Matcha Choco Iced had me going back for more sips than expected, I could finish it up without feeling jelak (cloying). Unlike others that I’ve tasted, this was light and wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet or milky … The Brûlée Toast lets out an euphoric crackling sound when cutting your knife through, then it touches a layer of wobbly soft jam… The crust was crisp and the homemade matcha jam had a sweet and underlying subtle aroma that is characteristic of matcha. It was a joy to sink our teeth into the different layers of textures from such a simple toast. Read full review. +
Keeping the sugar level to a minimal, there are four milk teas for your to choose from – Matcha Milk Tea, Houjicha, Royal and Kuromitsu … For me, I am super in love with their houjicha soft serve! I drink houjicha daily but it has always been very mild but for this soft serve, the nutty flavours hits on the right spot. It is smooth and creamy with a lovely roasted flavour unique to houjicha. With a crisp buttery cookie on the side and pure houjicha powder sprinkled on top. Read full review. +
We wanted to try the Brulle Toast which comes in 2 flavours, Matcha and Houjicha. The homemade milk bread was pretty normal I would say, spread over with matcha and houjicha jam then topped with roasted sesame seeds. They were good, though it tasted like tau sar bun with a hint of cha … We had the Houjicha Roll, which is made up of Matcha sponge with Houjicha cream. The best of both world in one slce but regrettably, the matcha sponge cake was rather dry. Read full review. +-
Houjicha Soft-serve was hands down our favourite of them all. Intense with an unmistakable roasted green tea flavour, this supremely smooth soft serve with a subtle bitter aftertaste was incredible … My second favourite of the lot, but not shared by the three girls, was the ice cream popsicle, Cha Cha Neh Neh Pop. Cha Cha is a collaboration with Artichoke of the Neh Neh Pop-fame… The matcha ice cream was rich and surrounded by a thick and addictively-crunchy green tea and sesame casing. Liquidy black molasses provided an extra touch of sweetness. So good. Read full review. +
The rich bittersweet Houjicha softserve has a roasted nutty unqiue flavour and comes with a crispy buttery cookie on the side. You definitely should get one for yourself, it’s too good that you shouldn’t be sharing it … We also had the Matcha Brulee Toast where we waited for 10 minutes as it is made only upon order. This sadly, has nothing to shout about. Matcha milk jam and matcha powder were spread and sprinkled on the toasted honey buttered bread. The sweet-bitter matcha milk jam tasted like matcha caramel, a little too sweet for my liking. Read full review. +-
The Milk Tea are the only ones that come in 4 flavours: Matcha, Houjicha, Royal Milk Tea and Kuromitsu, and 3 options: Hot, Cold and Bottled. Our favourite was the “hou-jiak” Houjicha, with a distinct roasted tea leaves flavour and balanced sweetness. Not commonly seen in Singapore, this is a pretty under-rated flavour … Swiss Roll comes in either Houjicha sponge with matcha cream or vice versa. The latter was enjoyable, with a light but detectable taste of the houjicha cream whereas the sponge cake was soft and fluffy.
