Renowned Hong Kong Cantonese porridge joint brought in by Singapore’s Les Amis Group. Mui Kee 妹记 is currently housed within Casa Verde as a six months pop-up concept, before settling into their permanent location in 2018.
Made using recipes and cooking techniques which have been passed down through three generations, Mui Kee’s luscious congee is made from boiling rice with pork bones and fish for over five hours. From the menu selection of eight classic and premium types of congee, try the signature Fish Belly ($14.50) congee where the dace fish belly slices are first sauteed in rice wine with ginger before it’s added to the congee, giving it a distinctive wok hei smokiness. Other outstanding combinations include Mui Kee’s signature Homemade Pork Meatball ($12.50), and the Scallop ($14.50).
Each congee set consists of a bowl of porridge garnished with slices of pickled ginger and shredded coriander, served with a side of you tiao (dough fritters) and century egg, while side dishes include the tender, delicate Drunken Chicken ($10), Pig’s Innards ($9) and blanched Kai Lan ($7).
