Popular family-run confectionery specializing in an affordable variety of traditional handmade Teochew snacks, most notably Poh Cheu’s Soon Kueh ($1) and Ang Ku Kueh ($1). The former is a dumpling-like snack with a smooth, thin rice-tapioca flour skin filled with a fragrant mixture of bamboo shoots, turnip and dried shrimps, and the latter, also known as red tortoise cake, is a popular festive pastry snack made with soft, sticky glutinous rice flour skin wrapped around a sweet filling centre that comes in an assortment of fillings like green bean and peanut, as well as salted bean, red bean and even durian, coffee and green tea.

Poh Cheu is especially known for the outstandingly soft, chewy and fresh quality of their kueh skin and generous amount of ingredients – a result of the meticulous handmade process which sets them apart from the rest and is evident in their popularity. Other well-loved kuehs are ku cai kueh ($1), yam kueh ($1) and rice cake ($1.20), where you can often spot fans buying and taking away boxes of these local delights.
