Popular Muslim-owned cafe with a homely, laid-back atmosphere, serving a selection of hearty “west-meets-Malaya” (Malay-western fusion) cuisine.
The Malayan Council’s concise menu consist of around 30 dishes, made up of mainly starters, main courses and desserts, with a handful of soups and pastas. Start with the delightful Malayan Wings ($13) that’s marinated in a sweet, savoury and spicy kicap chilli padi sauce, before proceeding to the crowd-favourite Roti Kirai Beef Ribs ($39), which features a slab of succulent short beef ribs glazed with a thick secret sauce and serve with roti kirai (a crepe-like Malayian net bread), perfect for mopping up the secret sauce. Other beef options include the signature TMC Burger as well as the satisfying Ribeye Masak Merah ($37) that slathered in a sweet and tangy sauce, served with truffle fries. Non beef-eaters, consider the interesting fusion of asam pedas sauce with deep-fried fish in Asam Pedas Fish & Chips ($19).
Don’t miss TMC’s famed Classic Ondeh Ondeh Cake ($8), assembled with layers of soft, fragrant pandan sponge cake, Chantilly cream, crunchy coconut flakes and sweet, moist gula melaka, served with a scoop of rich vanilla ice cream. Also look out for the rich Sticky Pudding ($9.50) that isn’t on the menu.
