The World Gourmet Summit (WGS) in Singapore turns 21!  Running from 20 March to 16 April 2017, you can look forward to a glorious feast of events that brings together a stellar cast of international culinary stars, home-grown talents, visiting industry personalities and discerning individuals who appreciate fine wines and cuisines. Some history: WGS was inaugurated back in 1997 as part of Singapore Tourism Board’s initiative to establish Singapore as a culinary destination and has since successfully grown into a globally recognized gastronomic event.

In this post, I want to focus on a list of all 8 masterclasses that will be held at various establishment across Singapore. Why just the masterclasses you ask? Simply because it’s a good chance to interact with the respective Masterchefs, to gain an invaluable insight into their minds and it’s just really fun to watch them work! Mescal Masterclass with Luis Rodriguez
Singapore Mexican RestaurantBorn in the heart of Mexico City in 1978, Chef Luis Rodriguez fell for the colorful ingredients in the markets and the flavors of his country. Graduating with a degree in gastronomy in 2004 from the Universidad de Claustro de Sor Juana, he was taught by some of the greatest professionals like Arturo Luengas and Mikel Alonso. In 2012, he arrived in the country of food lovers, Singapore. Chef Quentin Glabus combines an impressive culinary background, a strong design sense, a spirit of teamwork leadership, tremendous work ethic, and diverse experience in restaurant and catering management.  He is based in, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as the executive chef of his eponymous establishment – Chef Quentin Glabus, Private Dinners. His experience includes being the supervising head Canadian chefs for the Canadian Olympic House during the 2016 Rio Olympics. He created and designed over 200 recipes for the team, guests and VIPs. Culinary Masterclass Tasting Menu featuring Grill Ueli
Singapore Specialty meatIt has been over 30 years since Chef Ueli discovered his great passion for barbecuing. At 19 years old, Chef Ueli completed his training and qualified as a butcher with top grades. In 1987, he had obtained qualifications to be certified as a master butcher. In 1997, he entered the Swiss Barbecue Competition for the first time and was crowned champion. He was subsequently conferred the title of Swiss Barbeque Champion eight times, European Champion four times and World Champion four times. Culinary Masterclass & Luncheon at Miele featuring Bíró Lajos

Bringing “modern Hungarian” to the plate and giving birth to this concept, Bíró Lajos takes on Hungarian classics with a modern twist. When he was the manager and chef of Múzeum Kávéház Étterem, it was voted as the best restaurant in Hungary for five times, proving his commitment to the cuisine. He has opened the first Chinese restaurant in Hungary and was among the pioneers who had implemented Chinese cuisine to the local diet.
