Cake shop chain from Selangor, Malaysia offering their version of “castella” cakes inspired by the popular egg sponge cakes from Taiwan (which is in turn the Taiwanese iteration of on the popular Japanese castella cakes).
Ah Mah’s traditional home-made egg sponge cake is made with just eggs, milk, sugar, flour, and corn oil, resulting in a more eggy flavour. Starting at $8, the two flavours sold in Singapore include the soft, fluffy Original and the sweet-savoury Cheese flavour for $11, while some stores in Malaysia have introduced the Chicken Floss & White Sesame Seeds. Soon, maybe?
Update: Starting from 18 September, Ah Mah will be offering the Rocky Choc ($13) chocolate cake at all outlets.
