Hani Food Stall, West Coast
Popular hawker stall offering a highly affordable range of homely Malay cuisine, including Mee Rebus, Mee Siam and Lotong. Hani’s highlights include the Lontong ($2.80), which comes with three pieces of dense rice cakes, hard-boiled egg, bean curd and sayur lodeh vegetables in a rich savoury gravy topped with fried grated coconut and sambal chilli; as well as a well-balanced Mee Rebus ($2.80) with a robust gravy. One of the most popular Nasi Lemak stall in Singapore, reputed to be a personal favourite of the Sultan of Brunei as well as the part of Indonesia President Joko Widodo’s hosted breakfast at the Istana back in 2014.  Selera Rasa’s nasi lemak features a fluffy and fragrant coconut basmati long grained rice with deep-fried chicken wings that are marinated overnight in Selera Rasa’s family recipe. 1 out of 3 Xi Guay Ong star.

Well-known hawker stall known for their affordable Soto Ayam, a yellow spicy chicken soup with lontong also known as rice cakes, as well as Mee Soto (spicy chicken noodle soup). Starting at just $2.50, both dishes features Inspirasi’s rich, spicy homemade chicken soup and huge amount of shredded chicken, with a potent and flavourful vinegar-based chilli sauce that you shouldn’t miss out. 3 out of 3 Xi Guay Ong stars.

Warung Nyai Rose @ Mukmin Restaurant, Bedok
Check out the rare Kacang Pool ($3.50) that you can only find at a handful of eateries in Singapore. A hearty stew-like dish comprising grounded fava beans (broad beans), ghee, spices and herbs, topped with a poached egg and garnished with cut green chilli, chopped red onions and a lime. The spicy and savoury Kacang Pool comes with toasted French loaf which you use to scoop and mop up the thick nutty mixture. 2.5 out of 3 Xi Guay Ong stars.
